It's been a nice long while....

I want to apologize for my lack of blogging lately. It's been a while and although I do have some legit excuses I could throw at you the truth is I have no real excuse. So I hope all of my adoring readers will please forgive me. I'm talking to you Mom.

Anyways.. things have been busy and they haven't. Basically every time I think to blog it's an inopportune time and when I have the time to do it I forget about it. whoopsy daisy.

I would like to share s band I got to see last week. An interesting band playing good music with their own originalities. The show was at Lambert's downtown. Cowboy and Indian (Austin based) was the name. I had just heard their music about 2-3 weeks before the date of the show and decided that I couldn't miss it. I'm glad I didn't.

Cowboy and Indian opened the show and did it with style. They were opening for a band called He's my brother she's my sister... ( http://youtu.be/METcWKbEQD4 ) a great gypsy circus rock group out of L.A. You should definitely check them out. Cowboy and Indian were just speaking my language a little bit more. They took the audience to several different places throughout the show. One song would be somber and beautifully mellow and the next song had the potential of folk rocking your face off. Three different members of the band all took turns singing songs and harmonizing together. I believe I read the band first began When Jesse Plemons and Jazz Mills joined forces musically and later Daniel James. They haven't yet released an album so I'm looking forward to picking one up once that happens. And if you don't know Jesse Plemons is actual an established thespian. Most likely you've seen him in Friday Night Lights, Paul, and he is supposed to be in the blockbuster "Battleship" coming out next summer... among other things. Super nice dude. Great musician...forgot he was even in the business.

Here's a pic I took, and a recent video

Here's an example of a live show they had during SXSW with special guest the lovely Hunt sisters.

If you have the chance I would go see Cowboy and Indian. But only if you are a fan of music.

Thanks for reading Mom,

Jared

Leftover steak problem?

I have a solution.

breakfast tacos.

saute some onions and jalapenos. I had some leftover corn from the steak dinner so that was also thrown in.

Cut up the steak into delicious bite size pieces.

Once the onions and jalapenos are saute'd to perfection throw in the steak. When the steak gets warm throw in your eggs and make a scramble.

once that's done top it off with some jalapeno monterey jack cheese.

let melt.

put in tortilla.

eat.

you won't be disappointed.

unless you are a vegetarian.

Tow, Texas revisited

Well... in honor of it getting hot outside

I don't think I've posted this on here before. But just in case.... Dive Harder...... Filmed in Denton, Texas summer 2010. This is a very serious dramatic film representing different ways to accurately project oneself into a pool of water. It is the sequel to the blockbuster hit Dive Hard. By blockbuster I mean it's possible that 100 people have seen it.

so this happened today....

It had been too long. A free Todd Snider show at Sundance records today. Hard to pass up. The guy is the reason after all that I decided to attempt to write songs. I decided I wasn't going to record anything until he started playing one of my favorite songs of his. Then I decided I was going to record. Great folk music.

Here's a Billy Joe Shaver tune he sang with the help of HalleyAnna.

Ms. Gimble

So if you know or don't know..... Emily Gimble can sing. Emily Gimble can play piano. I once spoke of Warren Hood on this here blog which i'm pretty sure featured Emily singing a song. I even wrote about some jazz singers and somehow left off Emily. So now she's getting her own feature blog entry. I could go on and on about how great of a singer and piano player she is but I will just show some videos and let you see for yourself. Plus I don't want her getting a big head or anything.

and another one

And of course here's some Marshall Ford Swing Band footage:

And also get ready for a song featuring Ms. Gimble on the future album I've been working on for about 31 years now. soon it will be done.

Also Happy Birthday week to Mr. James Gwyn! see you both tomorrow night at the soiree!

Promise of the Real

So I knew that Willie Nelson had several kids. I was unaware that he had a 21 year old son that was playing Leno tonight and is a pretty damn good blues player. Willie Nelson is one of my all time favorite musicians, singers, and guitar players. Even if his son was a crappy musician living off his dad's coat tails I'm pretty sure I would be a fan. But this kid is talented. Lukas Nelson is his name. The Promise of the Real is his band. I've just discovered him myself about 30 minutes ago. Listening to him sing you can tell he's Willie Nelsons son. Watching him play guitar you can tell he was influenced by Jimi Hendrix, and SRV among others. My favorite guitar player of all time is Mr. Stevie Ray. So I just discovered the son of my favorite singer can play guitar with a SRV vibe at times. He's coming to Austin in February. I think i'm going to have to be there. Here's some of the clips I watched. and his myspace page has some tunes you can listen too also. http://www.myspace.com/promiseofthereal
