OK GO

So there is this band called OK GO. I've never really listened to them very much. But one thing that has perked my interest are their music videos. Always very creative. I don't know how they do it. They just came out with one recently to raise money and awareness for homeless animals. They did the video all in one take and had some help from their animal friends. If only MTV played music videos then maybe it would get seen.

Here's another one of their masterpieces

Saturday Afternoon Jam......and I'm not talking about jelly

This last saturday myself, my father-in-law, and his father-in-law (Mr. Gimble) ended up hanging out and playing some music. It seemed like some history being made so I hit record on my Iphone voice memo app on my phone. Two guitars and one mandolin. Tons of fun. Look for us out on the road. I thought myself and my father-in-law did a pretty decent job considering the guy playing mandolin has won a couple grammys and something like 9 CMA awards.

The time has come

Finally two of the greatest thespians of our generation have put aside their egos and combined their talents to focus themsleves completely on the true art of film.

It appears to have the same blueprint as Planes, Trains, and Automobiles but i'm cool with that.

What does not work correctly at my house

1 lawnmower
2 vacuums
1 computer
1 iphone
1 dryer
1 air mattress
all video making software
all music recording software
1 external hard drive
A/C barely works
1 backdoor lock (there's a steel beam we put in so you can't open it)
1 schnoodle
1 dustpan that just broke

But they are just things so it's all good. Except the schnoodle. According to the wife she's a person.

we are now accepting any and all donations.

Overindulgence of Sucess

So last night while fighting sleep by watching TV I came across a show called "Man vs Food". The host Adam was in Boulder, Colorado at this place called The Buff Restaurant. He tried a dish there called "saddlebags". It's bacon or sausage cooked, mixed in with pancakes and then topped with poached eggs, butter, and maple syrup. Looked like a very unhealthy combination of deliciousness.

For some reason all day today I couldn't get it out of my head. I got the approval from my lovely loving wife and decided to attempt to make what I witnessed the night before. The only problem was I've never poached eggs before. It is highly suggested that you use a little bit of vinegar in the water so the eggs stay together when you put them in the water. (some sort of chemistry i wish i knew more about) I didn't have any vinegar. Apparently if you get the water spinning in the pan when you put the egg in that also helps keep the egg together. It worked well enough. There are also tools you can buy that help but I didn't anticipate needing to cook poached eggs. Needless to say it was a great success. An overindulgence of success.

I normally don't eat two pancakes at once much less eggs and bacon with it. Tonight was all of the above. If tonight's dinner doesn't motivate you to work out I don't know what will.

"Machete don't text"

Today I felt like I was part of a social experiment. You know you are about to see a pretty ridiculous movie when there are 10 grown men in a theater all by themselves and no one has a date. No one even brought a friend. I'm guessing they are in the same boat as me. All their friends are working and their wives/girlfriends refuse to see the movie with them. So you skip out on work and go during the day when the movie is cheap and it doesn't affect anyone else's schedule. At least that's what I did. Especially when it's a movie made in Austin with lots of explosions and gratuitous violence. One of those movies you know going into that it doesn't have to make much sense so you don't worry about how the plot unfolds or question the characters' actions in the film. Just fun. The point of this B movie is that it is suppose to be so bad that it's good. Sometimes resulting in a film that is "Badass". If you understand the guys making the film and what they were trying to do then you would know that this film has reached its goal. Let's just say that this movie is so good that I would never make my wife watch it. But if you're a guy then I think that watching it will make you a better man.

can't beat it

If you are ever in Austin on a Sunday night check and see if this band is playing at Momos on west 6th street. Warren Hood is the name. If they are do yourself a favor and go. I just finished my first paper I had to write this semester and needed some good winding down clear the head music. This did the job. It's pretty amazing how many good musicians live in Austin. You must support them. Every time I get the chance to go that's what I do. I've never been disappointed.

This instrumental is pretty incredible

Another excellent band to check out is the Marshall Ford Swing Band. Great Music.

No turning back

I made a dip, or spread, for tomorrow. And it's giant. what the crap? I've never made a dip before. I think it's large enough to appetize Rhode Island. I really hope it's edible. I didn't exactly go by a recipe. That's my style. It's my very own monster of a creation. If it's good great. If it's bad then It's the wife's fault for not supervising. I'm pretty confident in my idea so hopefully the execution was precise. If so I'm going to patent it. UT football game in the water at lake LBJ. If you want to give it a taste that's where it will be. Just look for the dip. You won't miss it.

My good friend

I actually don't know this guy. But if I did i'm pretty sure we would be boys. One thing I'm not good at (and a reason I have to turn down many gigs) is playing cover songs. I just don't do it. Most of the gigs that are available to me are gigs where it would be very beneficial to me to know some popular covers/crowd pleasing tunes. What's funny is: I do know a few of some other people's songs, but they are random and most people haven't heard them so I might as well just play an original. (run-on sentence? wrong use of a colon?) When I do have the time to sit down and play guitar I normally just end up writing rather then trying to learn someone else's tunes. Just how I work. To each their own. I'm actually very impressed with people that know lots of covers because that's a serious memory at work and something I'm not very good at. I don't know how Matt Deaton does it. http://www.myspace.com/mattdeatonandfrontporchtexas
That guy remembers everything.

But (I learned in school not to start a sentence with but) every once in a while a song comes along and hits a chord with me and I have to learn it. That's what happened with this song. Heard it and the next day I was playing it. The song makes me want to move to New York City just so I can move to the country. I hope you like it too. If not...To each their own.

The Movie

Anyone from my generation will know what I'm talking about. Couldn't have made it through school without it.
